Maternal Instincts (2015)

Director Gwyneth Christoffel's IFP 48-hour entry and Maternal Instincts stars Arizona's Michelle Palermo & Courtney Gibson.

Directed By: Gwyneth Christoffel

The first short produce for a professional contest, the IFP 48-Hour "Beat the Clock" Challenge, Maternal Instincts had the restrictions of a shared line of dialog and prop (balloon), the team was given the category of "Thriller". The production scale was small as the film could rest upon the capable script crafted by Christoffel and Jordan Wippell. The real stroke of luck was landing the two talented leading actors.

Maternal Instincts had well-received performances from Michelle Palermo and Courtney Gibson, and that is in part to how great of a director Christoffel is and how well she can translate a script. While on set, I took a lot from how to relate to actors, especially trying to understand such a strong female perspective.
